Getting into Waterstones

How I got my book into Waterstones shelves and why it’s so hard for Indie authors…

Back in October, I had the pleasure of visiting the Waterstones Kensington store for a special Hallowe’en reading (and sing-a-long) of ‘My Brother is a Vampire’. My book was also featured on their display next to traditionally published authors and big names like Oliver Jeffers, Malorie Blackman and Dapo Adeola!

But getting the book in physical stores is a long and confusing process, which is one of the reasons why many Independent authors don’t end up on their shelves. This is such a shame because so many brilliant and diverse books are from self-published authors like myself.

The other reason is a financial one, as this process also pushes the author to discount their book heavily. Many Indie authors have much higher fixed costs which prevents them from listing their book.

In the YouTube video below, I discuss the process step-by-step, so that more authors know how to get their books on to Waterstones shelves AND hopefully more readers get to enjoy them!
